Many movies use jazz-oriented scores. This is distinct from the music being the focus in such films as Bird or ‘Round Midnight in which the music itself is as an element as important as the story. Composers such as John Barry, Elmer Bernstein, and Alex North wrote music for various films with scores that are distinctly in the category of jazz. This and the next two shows will feature music from some of these films.
This is Part 2 of the series. It features scores for The Man with the Golden Arm, Anatomy of a Murder, Smog, and The Wild One, as well as an explanation of the film terms “diegetic” and “non-diegetic.”
